Visual Methods – Laser Systems

Years of research on bird vision have shown that birds’ eyes are particularly sensitive to light at a wavelength of ca. 525 nm (as seen in the graph at left). As this
corresponds to green light, green laser systems were developed for bird control. These systems have proven particuarly effective, as can be seen in the video below for TONI’s automatic laser model.

TONI’s laser solutions are available in both handheld and stationary models, with options for both manual control and programmable routines. More information about our laser-based product line is available here.

Advantages Disadvantages
  1. Laser light is absolutely safe and completely silent
  2. No habituation possible
  3. High beam cohesion allows lasers to protect large areas
  4. Stationary models can be set to run automatically
  5. Particulary effective at reducing bird strikes: achieved reduction in bird incidents on runways of at least 40%
  6. As the laser is only directed at the ground, pilots are not distracted
  • Lasers are only used in the professional sector
  • In bright daylight of over 15,000 lumina the performance is poor and it automatically switch off
