Predators

Predators

One of the major factors limiting bird numbers in nature is the presence of predators. In human environments, however, predators are often absent, meaning that prey species can grow in number. Falconry allows the temporary and targeted reintroduction of a predator into the environment. Simply the presence of a bird of prey is often enough to frighten other birds away. Our falconry service provides not only a powerful deterrent to prey species, but by scaring away their food source, deters raptors that may also reside in the affected area.

Important characteristics of predator operations:

  • Predators represent an immediate threat to birds in any environment; their instinctive reaction is to flee.
  • The birds driven away are neither atacked nor killed, but dispersed merely by the predator’s presence. No birds are harmed in the course of using this method.
  • The most commonly used predators are Saker and Peregrine Falcons, and Harris Hawks.
  • At least two teams working in shifts are necessary  to maintain the hostile atmosphere.
  • Predators are suitable for heavy populations.
