Habitat Management

Habitat Management

The number of birds in a given location is determined by the local environment: the availability of food and water, the amount of nesting space, etc. The purpose of airport habitat management is to reduce the availability of these resources, thereby lowering the number of birds that can live in the airport environment. The predominant challenge in airport habitat management is to either eliminate these resources, or render them inaccessible.

TONI provides solutions for each of these challenges. Our nets are available in a varitety of sizes and materials to bar access to nesting areas in buildings, or to cover up reservoirs, sanitation facilities, and other areas where birds come to drink. Another solution for standing water are Bird Balls: air-filled hollow balls that sit on the water’s surface to make it inaccessible to birds. These are available in both air-filled and partially water-filled models.

In addition to an extensive product line, TONI is proud to provide comprehensive consulting services from our team of trained ornithologists and animal control specialists. We are ready to create a plan of habitat management to suit any airport environment.

Advantages Disadvantages
  1. Systematically reduces the number of birds that can reside at the airport
  2. Each step of habitat modification reduces numbers of birds
  • Size and scope can make it difficult to fully implement a management plan in terms of cost, personnel, or integration into established procedures
